Our Story

Ghar Ghar Langar Sewa (GGLS) is a humanitarian initiative of Guru Arjun Samajik Pratisthan, rooted in the spirit of Langar and the belief that food, dignity and compassion should reach everyone who needs them.

Our journey took a defining turn during the COVID-19 pandemic, when hunger and hardship became an immediate reality for families, migrant workers and vulnerable communities. Volunteers came together to prepare, organise and distribute food to people who needed it — an urgent response that soon grew into a larger community effort.

That experience changed the way we looked at Sewa. We realised that the need for help does not always come in the same form, and does not always remain in the same place. Sewa should go where there is a need.

As the immediate crisis passed, the spirit of Ghar Ghar Langar Sewa continued. Daily food Sewa became a continuing part of our work in Ahilyanagar, reaching vulnerable families, daily-wage workers, students, people accompanying patients and others in need.

But our journey has never been only about food. Over time, our Sewa has expanded into education, healthcare, youth development, environmental initiatives and disaster relief — school kits and bicycles supporting children and students, healthcare camps reaching communities, and volunteers stepping forward with food and relief whenever floods, shortages or other emergencies have struck.

Our roots are in Ahilyanagar, but our commitment is not limited by geography. When there is a genuine need, we believe Sewa should be willing to reach beyond familiar boundaries.

Ghar Ghar Langar Sewa is a journey built by sewadaars, volunteers, donors, supporters, community partners and well-wishers who have contributed their time, resources and trust. Every meal served, every child supported, every relief effort and every act of kindness is part of a larger collective effort. For us, Ghar Ghar Langar Sewa is more than a food initiative — it is an ongoing expression of Sewa, dignity and humanity.

From one meal to a helping hand. From everyday needs to times of crisis. From Ahilyanagar to wherever help is needed.

Our Mission

No One Should Sleep Hungry. Our mission is to serve people with compassion, dignity and humanity, ensuring that those facing hunger, hardship or crisis can receive meaningful support when they need it most. Through Ghar Ghar Langar Sewa, we carry forward the spirit of Langar through food Sewa while extending our efforts to education, healthcare, youth development, environment and disaster relief. We believe Sewa is not simply about giving — it is about standing with people.

Our Vision

A Society Where No One Is Left Behind. We envision a society where people have access to food, education, healthcare and opportunities to grow, and where individuals and communities receive support when they face hardship or crisis. We aspire to nurture a culture of Sewa, compassion and collective responsibility — a future where everyone can live with dignity, hope and opportunity.

Our Approach

Listen. Respond. Serve. Continue. We work close to communities and respond to needs as they arise — sometimes the need is a meal, sometimes it is educational support, healthcare or assistance during a crisis. We don't ask where the need fits into our programme; we ask how our Sewa can respond to the need.

Our Approach in Detail

01 — Understand the Need

We listen to communities and identify where support is genuinely needed.

02 — Respond with Dignity

Whether it is food, educational support, healthcare or relief, we believe people should be served with respect and compassion.

03 — Mobilise People

Sewa is a collective effort. Volunteers, donors, supporters, institutions and community partners come together to turn concern into action.

04 — Go Where the Need Is

Our work is rooted in Ahilyanagar, but emergencies and humanitarian needs can extend beyond geographical boundaries. When the need is genuine, we believe Sewa should reach there.

05 — Adapt and Continue

Circumstances can change. We look for practical ways to continue serving while using available resources responsibly.

06 — Think Beyond the Immediate Need

Alongside immediate assistance, we support initiatives that can contribute to education, healthcare, youth development, environmental responsibility and stronger communities.

Our Core Values

Transparency

Trust begins with openness. We strive to communicate honestly about our work, initiatives and impact, so that our supporters and partners can understand the Sewa they are helping to build.

Community First

People are at the heart of our Sewa. We listen to communities and focus our efforts on areas where support can make a meaningful difference.

Accountability

Every contribution carries responsibility. We recognise our responsibility towards the people we serve and towards the volunteers, donors, supporters and partners who make our work possible.

Sustainable Impact

We look beyond today's need. While responding to immediate needs, we also work towards education, healthcare, youth development, environmental responsibility and stronger communities.

Langar gives us the spirit.
Sewa gives us the purpose.
Humanity gives us the direction.

No One Should Sleep Hungry.
And wherever there is a need, Sewa should reach there.
